Huskies Take On Sentinels in Bible College NIT Semifinals
Powell, TN – The Huskies traveled to The Crown College to participate in the Bible College NIT tournament. They would be locked into the #1 seed and receive a first-round bye. The fifth-seeded Sentinels from Patrick Henry College took down the Lancaster Bible College Mustangs (JV) on Thursday to earn a second-round matchup against the Huskies.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair with both teams looking to settle into the game. The Huskies had trouble stopping the Sentinels' Andrew Penrod. He put up a double-double in the first half with 11 points and 11 rebounds. However, the Huskies' Dan Morales also had a big first half with 15 points. He found success down low in the paint and also from distance with a pair of three-pointers.
While the lead changed several times in the first half, the Huskies' defense picked up toward the end and closed the half on an 11-3 run. The Huskies went into the break with momentum and a 37-28 lead over the Sentinels.
Early in the second half, the lead went up to 11, but in just three minutes, the Sentinels were within 2 points. The Huskies continued to build 5–6-point leads, with the Sentinels closing the gap each time and staying close. With just under 5 minutes remaining in the game, Jordan Hayden made two free throws to give the Huskies a 4-point lead. The Huskies followed these free throws, with two clutch three-pointers by Dan Morales and Javion Glenn.
These three-pointers fueled the Huskies as they took full control of the game. The Huskies would win the game, 79-62, and advance. Dan Morales finished the game with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Hayden Jordan picked up a double-double, with 15 points and 10 rebounds. All the starters for the Huskies scored in double figures as they shared the scoring load.
The Huskies will take on The Crown College in the championship game, on Saturday, February 15th at 1 pm.
