Huskies Look to Upset Mustangs in Quarterfinal Matchup

Auburn, ME – On Saturday afternoon, the Huskies traveled to take on the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College in a YSCC Quarterfinal matchup. The Mustangs won both games in the regular season, but the Huskies were looking to play as the underdog and earn a spot in the Semifinals.

The Huskies came out hot from distance and quickly knocked down four three-pointers to take a 12-7 lead. However, the Mustang's full-court press and defensive traps turned the Huskies over and led to easy baskets and open looks from deep. The game began to shift in favor of the Mustangs as they built an 11-point lead in front of their home fans. The Huskies would remain patient and keep the game close. With under five minutes left in the half, the Mustangs led by just 1 point, 34-33. The physical defense from the Mustangs slowed the Huskies down the rest of the half and the lead went back up to eight at halftime.

Hayden Jordan led the Huskies in the first half with 14 points and four three-pointers. Lukas Parschauer was also having a solid first half, with 10 points and shooting 2-2 from the three-point line before coming out with an injury.

The Mustangs came out firing on all cylinders to start the second half. Their defense produced turnovers or difficult shots while their offense seemed to not miss a shot. After eight minutes, the halftime lead of 8 points had turned into a 28-point lead, as the Mustangs went on a 27-7 run. The Mustangs would take control of the game and punched their ticket to the YSCC Semifinals with a 98-67 win.

The Mustangs shot an impressive 53.7% from the field during the second half to give them the separation they needed. Khaden Moore led the game with 22 points for the Mustangs. Wyatt Hathaway came off the bench and hit seven three-pointers and was the spark to the Mustang's run early in the second half.

Hayden Jordan led the Huskies in scoring with 21 points and six three-pointers of his own. Blake Gossel continued his impressive scoring off the bench by adding 15 points. Lukas Parschauer finished with 12 points but was only able to play 2 minutes in the second half due to injury.

Following this loss, the Huskies' season came to an end. They finished the season with a 14-13 record.
