Paul Smith's, N.Y. – October 22, 2025 – The Word of Life women's soccer team earned a dramatic 1–0 win over Paul Smith's College on Wednesday afternoon, with sophomore forward Lily Arden delivering the golden goal in double overtime to lift the Huskies to victory.
From the opening whistle, both squads showcased strong defensive organization and goalkeeping prowess. Sophomore keeper Ryleigh Gangarossa anchored the Huskies' defense, recording numerous key saves to keep the match level through regulation. Gangarossa turned away multiple first-half threats, including back-to-back stops on consecutive shots by Paul Smith's forward Sydney Lemay.
Offensively, Word of Life generated several dangerous chances in transition. Midfielder Ellie Rishel created scoring opportunities off corner kicks, and forward Eva Penning pushed the opposing defense with several efforts from distance. Still, neither side could capitalize, sending the game into overtime tied 0–0.
The extra periods saw end-to-end action, with both teams pressing for a breakthrough. Gangarossa remained composed under pressure, denying attempts from Paul Smith's Micaela Diller and Marlie Brummer, while Peyton Hoffman kept the Bobcats in the contest with key stops of her own.
The decisive moment came in the 115th minute. Following a well-executed buildup, Ellie Rischel delivered an excellent ball from a corner kick that bounced off Sohyr Perry, and Arden was there to finish, burying her shot in the back of the net for a walk-off win for Word of Life in Double Overtime.
The Huskies advance to the 2025 YSCC Women's Soccer Final Four beginning November 1st and will be hosted by Central Maine CC. The Huskies will soon find out who their opponent will be.
